AGC MEMBER EVENT Echo Farm Lecture: Propagation and Softwood Cuttings

June Meeting: Propagation by Softwood Cuttings.

Come Zoom with us for our second virtual meeting on June 16, 2020, at 10:15 AM. The Zoom information will be sent by a separate email directly to you by Liz Jaques.

Enjoy a morning virtually exploring the wonders of Echo Farm whose organic produce is the sole source for the dinners served at their catered events during “normal” times. Kirsten Liebl, the gardener at Echo Farm, will demonstrate how to do a softwood cutting of shrubs such as clethra alnifolia.  The food and flowers grown on the farm are selected a year in advance according to the specifications of the individual hosting a dinner at the farm.

During the Zoom presentation, we will learn how to propagate plants beginning with where to purchase seeds, why to stratify, how to germinate and will observe seed blocking.  Propagation of plants will then be demonstrated to include cuttings, layering, and division.  We will hear about the planting of cover crops to reduce weeds and the lack of soil tilling to reduce CO2 emissions.

We hope you will find time to visit the beautiful Echo Farm in person this summer at 327 Walker Road, Essex, New York.
