AGC hosts ‘Plastic Detox’ screening to highlight chemical risks
The Adirondack Garden Club brought the plastic conversation to the North Country with a free screening of “Plastic Detox.” The March 2026 Netflix documentary spotlights environmental and reproductive epidemiologist Dr. Shanna Swan. Her pioneering research on endocrine-disrupting chemicals is applied to couples struggling with unexplained infertility.
Audrey Desjardins, who currently serves as president of the garden club, explained that she wanted to organize this screening because the club primarily focuses on environmental conservation.
“When an invasive species enters a healthy forest, it doesn’t simply replace one plant. It gradually changes the entire ecosystem,” Desjardins said. “The good news is that just as we’re learning to restore habitats, and manage endangered species, we can also make more choices that reduce our exposure to unnecessary plastics and harmful chemicals.”
